CCTV9英语新闻:印度政府发布余震警告(在线收听) |
Well the tremors that rippled out from the earthquake in Nepal have left at least 17 people dead across northern and eastern India. Most of the deaths occurred in the eastern state of Bihar.
Shockwaves were felt as far away as the capital New Delhi, where buildings swayed for a few seconds, forcing people to pour out into the streets. In Patna, the capital of Bihar, one person died from a fatal injury while rushing out of his house. In the district of Kushinagar, in northern Uttar Pradesh, at least five people were injured when a roof collapsed.
And authorities in the country have warned of aftershocks to come.
"Because the earthquake was huge in magnitude, its aftershocks will be felt in the coming weeks and even months. It happens with every big earthquake," Ls Rathore, director general of Indian Meteorological Department, said.
"I had come home and was eating lunch and suddenly I felt the whole house shake; I heard a thudding noise as well. My wife told me that it was an earthquake so we rushed downstairs. But by the time we were downstairs, it was over. Everyone was out on the streets." |
