The damaged cruise ship Eastern Star has been moved ten kilometres upstream from where it capsized in the Yangtze River, following concerns the ship may sustain more damage in inclement weather in the area. The capsized ship Eastern Star is towed away from the accident site in Jianli, central China's Hubei Province, June 10, 2015. The capsized ship Eastern Star was towed to a water area 10 kilometers away from its accident site for safe mooring on Wednesday.(Xinhua/Xiao Yijiu) It was pulled by a tugboat to calmer waters. According to the Ministry of Transport, the ship is no longer in a condition to withstand the heavy rain and strong winds common during the flood season along the Yangtze. The ship capsized on June 1st, killing 434 people onboard. 14 people have survived the wreck and eight others remain missing. As of Thursday, a total of 342 victims have been identified through DNA matching. About 170 legal medical experts and technicians are in Jianli, Jingzhou and Wuhan in Hubei province, working to identify all the bodies recovered from the accident. |
