Top 5 Songs for Week Ending July 11

We’re counting down the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, for the week ending July 11, 2015.

Last Saturday was July 4, U-S Independence Day. Every act in this week’s Top Five is from the United States, with one exception…and that’s fitting because we are a nation of immigrants.

Let’s open in fifth place where Walk The Moon, from Cincinnati, Ohio, holds with “Shut Up And Dance.” This song is taking off internationally. “Shut Up And Dance” holds in fourth place this week on the UK chart, while reaching third place in Australia, fourth place in Canada, and second place in Scotland.

Stepping back a slot in fourth place on our list is Fetty Wap with “Trap Queen.” Last month, the New Jersey rapper made his first appearance on the popular Angie Martinez radio show and said he doesn’t call his music hip-hop…he just makes music people like to hear. Fetty says he likes to make melodies and add flavor to them.

Taking over third place is OMI, from Jamaica, with “Cheerleader.” The remix got him here, but OMI says it’s all good… Originally released in 2012, it became a worldwide hit after being remixed by German DJ Felix Jaehn. OMI says the two versions may be speaking to different audiences, but it’s a win-win situation for him…because his vocals are on both versions.

It’s the same situation for Taylor Swift, whose single mix of “Bad Blood” features Kendrick Lamar…they’re still ready to reclaim their singles throne in second place.Taylor celebrated the 4th of July at her Rhode Island mansion, and shared party photos on social media. The star-studded guest list included her boyfriend Calvin Harris, her old pal Ed Sheeran, Joe and Nick Jonas, model Gigi Hadid, the Haim Sisters and many more.

Up at number one, the party continues for Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, as “See You Again” holds the title for an 11th week. One more week and it ties the record for the longest-running champion rap single on the Hot 100. Previous title-holders are the Black Eyed Peas with “Boom Boom Pow,” and Eminem with “Lose Yourself.”

Don’t lose your way back here…you’ll want to be around for next week’s hit list. It all happens again in seven days!
