January 5th 2000. The US government decides six-year-old Elian Gonzalez should be returned to his father in Cuba. That move touches off angry protests by Cuban Americans in Miami, home of Elian’s US relatives. After a legal battle, the government seizes Elian from those relatives months later and the boy returns to Cuba. 1925. Nellie T. Ross succeeds her late husband as a governor in Wyoming, becoming the first female governor in American history.
