January 11th, 1964, For the first time, the U.S. government warns that smoking may be hazardous to your health. Surgeon General Luther Terry: “It is the judgment of the Committee that cigarette smoking contributes substantially to mortality from certain specific diseases and to the overall death rate.” 1935, Aviator Amelia Earhart begins the journey form Hawaii to California, making her the first woman to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean.
1757, Alexander Hamilton, one of American’s founding father and still on the ten dollar bill, is born in the West Indies.
And 1973, Owners of American League baseball teams adopted the designated-hitter rule on a trial basis--- a rule that’s remained ever since.
