1966Indira Gandhi is elected Prime Minister of India, becoming the first woman to lead the world’s most populous democracy.
2001As he prepares to leave office, President Bill Clinton admits making false statements under oath about his relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The admission is part of a deal sparing Clinton from possible indictment. He also agrees to surrender his law license for 5 years.
1943Singer Janis Joplin, an icon of the 60’s counter culture, is born in Port Arthur, Texas.
And 1946Country singer Dolly Parton is born in Locust Ridge, Tennessee.
