May 24th, 1844Inventor Samuel Morse opens America's first telegraph line. He transmits the message “What hath God wrought” from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. 1994In New York, four men convicted of bombing the World Trade Center the year before are each sentenced to 240 years in prison. Ed Smith is the husband of one of the bombing victims. “Justice reserved. And the American system didn't work. It's a lot of people put a lot of time and effort to get this dump.” More than 7 years later, a second terrorist attack on September 11th topples the Twin Towers, killing nearly 3,000 people.
1819Queen Victoria whose more than 60-year rule saw the British Empire reached its peak is born in London.
1883The Brooklyn Bridge, one of America's oldest suspension bridges opens to traffic in New York City linking Manhattan and Brooklyn. And 1941“Lonely they end slowly blowing in the wind…” Bob Dylan, the singer-songwriter who first gained fame in the folk music scene of the early 1960s is born in Duluth, Minnesota.
