 The teachings of the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucious are also depicted in the Dazu Rock Carvings. This is the typical carvings to show the Confucious’s thoughts how it applies to people’s life. Confucian thoughts? Yes, that’s the combination of the Buddha’s thoughts and the Confucious thoughts and actually both of them are not against each other. People just combine them to the life. And also they think these two are connected to each other. The whole story is about how the kids should take of their parents and should treat them good and show the loving caring. That’s what the people can get. It’s a little bit of lessoning. Yeah, actually it’s a big lesson in China, big lessoning you absolutely have in your course. It shows century and century ago, Buddhism and Confucianism existed together, lived together, worked together in some sort bit of harmony. Yes, they are just different path to the one truth of this universe. The third great Chinese faith depicted here is Daoism which emphasizes its following the laws of nature. That’s now also enjoying a major revival. The number of Daoism places of worship has tripled in the past 15 years. Historically these 3 religions and philosophies were known in China as the 3 harmonious faiths. I think of China today, and you think of any economic power house, a place is perhaps just a little bit soulless, place that’s less about personal belief and more about production line. But Chinese history is full of myth and legends, beliefs and superstitions. The communists try to wipe them out but it never won to wipe. Communism is just a short period in the history of the country that is profoundly religious.
