Top NewsXi calls for concerted China-U.S. efforts to advance ties on right trackChinese President Xi Jinping has said China is willing to join hands with the United States to improve their relationship and push it forward on the right track.

Holding talks with his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, at the White House, President Xi says bilateral ties have kept making new progress in the recent two years, bringing abundant benefits to the two nations and the world at large.

The two presidents reached a consensus on building a new type of major-country relations between the two countries at their Annenberg estate summit in June 2013.

President Xi says China is willing to work together with the United States to adhere to non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

He says the two countries should manage differences and sensitive issues with constructive means, so as to ensure that bilateral ties will always move ahead on the right track.

Before flying to the U.S. capital, Xi concluded a two-and-a-half-day stay in the West Coast technology and aviation hub of Seattle.

The Chinese president will be in New York from Sept. 26 to 28 for a series of summits and meetings marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

China and U.S. to improve relationshipAnchor:

Following their talks, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a joint press conference with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House, where the two presidents elaborated on some important issues.

On the issue of cyber security, President Xi says China and the U.S. have agreed to step up investigation assistance and information sharing on cyber crime cases.

"China strongly opposes and combats the theft of commercial secrets and other kinds of hacking attacks. The US side has concerns in this respect. We can, through the existing channels express those concerns. The Chinese will take seriously the US provision of any information we have already now and in the future we will still through the law enforcement authorities maintain a communication and coordination on this matter and appropriately address them."Talking about the issue of territory, President Xi says that China is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea.

"We are committed to respecting and upholding the freedom of navigation and overflight that countries enjoy according to international law. The relevant construction activities that China is undertaking in the islands in the south will not target or impact any country and China does not intend to pursue militarisation."President Xi says islands in the South China Sea, since ancient times, are China's territory, and China has the right to uphold its own territorial sovereignty and lawful and legitimate maritime rights and interests.

Meantime, a China-U.S. joint presidential state on climate change has been released.

According to the statement, China plans to start its national emission trading system in 2017 and will lower carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 60 to 65 percent from the 2005 level by 2030.

For his part, President Obama expresses his confidence towards the climate change cooperation between the two sides.

"I'm pleased that we're building on last year's climate commitments. Last month I issued our clean power plant to help reduce America's carbon emissions. Today I want to commend China for announcing that it will being a national market based cap and trade system to limit emissions from some of its largest sectors. Last year I announced our pledge of 3 billion dollars to the green climate fund to help developing nations deal with climate change. Today I welcome China's major commitment of climate finance for the most vulnerable countries as well."On the issue of currency, President Xi says there's no basis for the Renminbi to have a devaluation in the long run, and China will further improve the marketisation and formation regime of the Renminbi exchange rate and maintain the normal fluctuation of the exchange rate and maintain the basic stability of the Renminbi at an adaptive equilibrium level.

Earlier at a welcome ceremony, President Xi also stressed that the two sides must uphold the right direction of building a new model of major-country relations, and make sure the relationship is defined by peace, respect and cooperation.

Joint Press Conference Highlights Progress on Cybersecurity and Climate ChangeAnchor: Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Barack Obama announced Friday that they've agreed not to conduct or support cyber-enabled theft of intellectual property. In addition, the two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment on dealing with global climate change. For more on the Chinese President's US visit, we're now joined by our Washington chief correspondent Xiaohong.

Well, Xiaohong, please give us more details on President Xi's activities in Washington DC.

First lady of China, Peng Liyuan and the first lady of US Michelle Obama have jointly named the Smithsonian National Zoo's month-old panda cub as "Bei Bei", which means precious treasure.

The two first ladies trip to the National Zoo in downtown D.C. has once again triggered a panda frenzy.

CRI's Washington correspondent He Fei has the details.

"She is so beautiful and she is the perfect first lady. I'm so happy to see her."Crowds are gathered at the National Zoo, welcoming the visiting first lady of China, Madame Peng Liyuan.

In fact, the two first ladies are no stranger to the zoo as well as the panda cubs. They named "Bao Bao" in 2013 and this time, they jointly picked the name "Bei Bei" for the newly born boy. Same as his elder sister's, his name also means precious treasure in Chinese.

Madame Peng, who is in town on a state visit with President Xi Jinping — called the new panda cub "absolutely adorable.""Michelle once said that the giant panda exemplifies the common bond between China and the United States. That's a lot of responsibility for a cute animal like the giant panda, but she is certain that they are up to the task, and I agree with her very much. I expect and I am confident that the giant pandas will continue to serve as an important link between our peoples and it will bring greater joy and friendship to the people of our two countries, especially the kids of China and the United States."At the ceremony, students from the local Yu Ying Chinese immersion public charter school performed Chinese songs for the two first ladies and assisted them by unfurling the scrolls to reveal the cub's name.

US First Lady Michelle Obama,"We're here because we want young people like you to keep doing what you're doing, and that is connecting with people in other cultures, exposing yourself to new cultures, learning new languages, and you all have done it so well. That's why President Obama and President Xi just announced the One Million Strong initiative to reach one million students here in the US to speak Mandarin Chinese by the year 2020."According to the zoo, "Bei Bei" is doing great and bigger than its other two cubs were at this stage. Officials said the cub now weighs about three pounds, 10 times what it weighed when it was born Aug. 22.

Smithsonian Secretary David Skorton said it was an honor to have the two first ladies celebrating the more than four-decade history of China and the Smithsonian working together to preserve giant pandas and to name the newest addition to its panda family.

Among the crowds, Huang Qihong, a visiting scholar at the Catholic University of America says people both from the US and China will remember this moment as they remember the name.

"The name of the panda will last long and people will remember this moment. And the panda itself is an icon for our friendship with the US. To name the cub together, is a way to strengthen the friendship between our two countries."Leslie Johnson is a local resident who has been a die-hard fan of the panda family here in Washington D.C.

"I actually have lived in Washington my whole life so I started with Ling-Ling and HSing-Hsing with my panda obsession. And this family is just extraordinarily special. So I come as often as I can to see them and so excited about the new baby."In 1972, following President Richard Nixon's state visit to China, the National Zoo received a state gift of two pandas, Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing. It was since then pandas are seen as the bond to tie the two people closer.

Chinese President Xi Jinping to Address the UN General AssemblyAs part of his time in the US, Chinese President Xi Jinping is also scheduled to attend a series of summits in the United Nations' headquaters in New York.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, says a wide range of issues will be discussed.

"We expect the Secretary-General in specific to discuss a whole round of issues with the President when he meets him. But obviously there are important issues such as sustainable development, lifting people out of poverty and climate change in which China has a critical leadership to play."One of the summits, the UN Sustainable Development Summit, will take place later on today.

A new set of Sustainable Development Goals is expected to be adopted by the assembly.

"Obviously to be here for the adoption of the new sustainable development goal, this roadmap to eradicate poverty for the next 15 years and I think China has been a great example in development and in lifting people out of poverty."On the invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Xi Jinping will give a speech at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.

The President is due to talk about China's development course and contribution to the world economy.

And for more on that, CRI's Tu Yun spoke with Zhou Xiaoming, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.

China to Enhance Support for Eco-vehiclesAnchor:

China is trying to build more charging facilities to support electric vehicles that can effectively cut harmful emissions.

CRI's Guo Yan reports.

Reporter:

A lack of charging piles and stations in urban areas is hindering the promotion of the use of electric vehicles.

To solve the problem, the Chinese government is now requesting in a State Council statement earlier this week that all parking lots in new residential areas should install charging facilities or leave space for future construction. No less than 10 percent of parking lots in large public buildings or public car lots are also required to have charging facilities.

Wang Yuanhong with the State Information Center says the new measure will both promote the growth of the new energy vehicle sector and benefit local residents:

"While the automotive industry has hit a bottleneck since the end of 2014, the production and sale of new energy vehicles, especial electric vehicles shows a good performance. This indicates the future trends in auto industry. So building more charging facilities for electric vehicles will attract more investment and promote auto sales. It also will improve public facility construction and thus benefit locals."The new energy vehicle sector in China is soaring, with sales surging 270 percent to 108,654 units in the first eight months of this year, says the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Cui Yan, an auto analyst from Minsheng Securities believes increasing the investment in charging facilities could lead to more benefits:

"Places like Beijing and Shanghai have used a series of favorable policies to promote buying of new energy vehicles, such as giving subsidies, tax cuts and free license plates. So building charging facilities is way to promote the use of new energy vehicles. I think government support is a necessary for the growth of new energy sector. It has proved to be true in foreign countries. New energy vehicles will be a substitute in auto industry and become a pillar for national economy."Yang Weixiao, an analyst from Fangzheng Securities echoes with Cui Yan that investing in charging facilities will benefit market in the long term.

"I think the investments on charging facilities are comparatively small, so it may not directly affect national economy. But it has long-term effects, which I think it will promote the development of a new market."The Chinese government is also encouraging private investment in the projects, with the allowance of favorable financing options for construction projects.

According to the National Energy Administration of China, charging piles equipped in China will reach 4.5 million units by 2020.

Volkswagen's new CEO pledges tighter rulesAnchor:

The newly-appointed CEO of Volkswagen has pledged tighter compliance rules and governance standards after a growing emissions test-rigging scandal.

CRI's Wang Mengzhen has more.

Matthias Mueller, head of the group's Porsche sports car brand, pledges to do everything to win back the trust of the public and make Volkswagen an even stronger company.

"I'm taking on this responsibility at a time when our company is faced with unparalleled changes indeed. I have a great deal of recognition of this but I assume this responsibility with confidence and will do everything personally to regain the trust of our customers, our employers and partners and investors and the whole public. We stand by our responsibility."He adds that the top target is that people continue to trust their products and drive them with pleasure, and safety should always be the top priority.

"We need to be very careful, and that counts more than speed. Let me also reiterate that the safety of our vehicles has never been compromised, the safety of our customers – this is very close to my heart and to get this across."Mueller's appointment comes after a supervisory board meeting of the company held in Berlin earlier yesterday.

Former CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned earlier this week after the US Environmental Protection Agency revealed that Volkswagen cheated during US emission tests over the past 7 years.

The EPA said Volkswagen had used illegal software during testing, which enabled its diesel cars to emit fewer pollutants compared to actual driving conditions.

Lucia Caudet, the European Commission's spokeswoman, said that the organization wants all member states to investigate the issue.

"We invite all member states - in addition to the ones who are already doing so - to carry out all the necessary investigations. We need to have the full picture of whether and how many vehicles certified in the EU were fitted with defeat devices, which is banned by EU law."She added that the European Commission is reflecting on improving its surveillance of the auto market.

It's been estimated that 11 million cars worldwide could be affected in the scandal.

Volkswagen now faces a massive fine in the US, estimated to reach 18 billion dollars.

The shares showed an increase of 4.3% on the Frankfurt stock exchange yesterday.

US House Speaker John Boehner to resign Oct. 30US House Speaker John Boehner has announced plans to resign from the speakership and to give up his House seat at the end of October.

The news comes as Congress is embroiled in a battle over the funding of the controversial women's health organization Planned Parenthood, with conservatives in the Republican caucus threatening a government shutdown if its appropriations are not removed.

Boehner says that the prospect of a prolonged leadership upheaval is his main concern in making the decision.

The Ohio Republican says he had planned to step down at the end of the year but turmoil within his caucus prompted him to resign earlier than planned.

Boehner took over the speakership in January 2011.

His willingness to compromise and his reliance on Democratic votes in the House in order to move legislation has often angered conservatives in his caucus.

The House Speaker is third in line for the presidency after Vice President Joe Biden.

Premier Urges Parallel Development of Urbanization, Modern AgricultureChinese Premier Li Keqiang is calling for balanced development between urbanization and the modernization of agriculture in China.

Premier Li made the remarks during his three-day visit to central China's Henan Province, which ended Friday.

Li says urbanization can stimulate the economic growth for highly-populated cities like Henan. He also emphasizes the importance of improving urban infrastructure and creating more jobs in big and small cities.

Regarding agricultural modernization, such as industrial farming, Li calls on officials to provide farmers with policies that are tailored to local needs.

The Premier also says the initiative will be adopted nationwide this year and will cover urban and rural residents alike.

Chinese central government delegation arrives in Xinjiang for 60th anniversary of autonomyA Chinese central government delegation led by top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng has arrived in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding.

The delegation was greeted by local officials and some 1,000 local residents at the airport.

Consisting of 69 members, the central delegation is scheduled to attend a grand celebration on Oct. 1.

On Thursday, the Chinese government has released a white paper showcasing the success of regional autonomy in Xinjiang.

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was founded on Oct. 1, 1955, after the local legislature elected the first regional government.

It's time to take a look back at some business headlines from this past week in our Weekly Business Review.

The Asian Development Bank cuts this year's GDP growth for AsiaCaixin flash China general manufacturing PMI hits 78-month low in September.

And a 'Negative list' to go nationwide in China in 2018.

Let's catch up on all of that and more with CRI's Wenjie.

==The Asian Development Bank has cut its GDP growth forecast for Asia to 5.8-percent this year.

This is down from the 6.3-percent the ADB originally forecast.

Meanwhile, ADB's report shows the Chinese economy is expected to expand 6.8 percent this year.

This is down from its original forecast of 7.2-percent.

Asian Development Bank chief economist Wei Shang-jin explains,"We expect in the next few years, Chinese working-age population is shrinking roughly at a rate of 0.3 percent a year, holding everything else constant, this leads to a reduction in growth rate by 0.18 percent a year. So that's the fundamental thing. On top of that, continuously rising wage cost also gives you additional reason to see the slowdown."The new ADB projections do suggest inflation throughout the developing countries in Asia is projected to slow down through the rest of the year.

The Bank is suggesting this is mostly due to lower global commodity prices.

==The Caixin flash China general manufacturing PMI plunged to a 78-month low at 47.0 in September.

This is down from August's 47.3 reading.

Readings have to be above 50 to indicate expansion.

He Fan, chief economist at Caixin Insight Group, believes the decline indicates the nation's manufacturing industry has reached a crucial stage in the structural transformation process.

Mizuho Securities chief Economist Shen Jianguang believes Caixin PMI cannot reflect all the factory activities in China.

"I think the Caixin PMI just reflects the factory activity of part of the enterprises, the small and medium sized enterprises, most of which are private companies. Factory activities of large companies may be better with the fiscal stimulus. We expect the official PMI will not be lower than the previous month."The flash index is published on a monthly basis ahead of final PMI data.

The estimate is based on approximately 85 to 90 percent of total PMI survey responses from over 420 manufacturers.

==Chinese authorities are making it easier for multi-national conglomerates to use and become part of the Renminbi cash-pooling system.

The People's Bank of China is allowing companies involved in the cash-pooling scheme to move in as much as 50-percent of their pool's contribution into the country.

This is up from the original 10-percent limit.

The PBOC is also making it easier for multi-nationals to join the scheme by reducing the requirements to join.

The cash-pooling program has been in-place in China since last year.

It allows Chinese and multi-national firms, to put renminbi resources into a pool so they can draw from it to fund their various divisions without having to go through the exchange process.

==China has vowed to apply its "negative list" system nationwide by the year of 2018.

An official statement issued early this week suggests the practice of opening all sectors except a proscribed few will be expanded gradually between 2015 and 2017, before a nationwide negative list is established in 2018.

This will help foreign investors gain more access to the Chinese market as well as streamline government administration.

The list, issued by the state council, China's cabinet, has left prohibitions or restrictions on foreign investment in several sectors.

Liu Baocheng, Professor of Beijing-based University of International Business and Economics, believes implementing the "negative list" system will be of great significance.

"For all businesses no matter they are foreign, private and state owned, they have been waiting this for 15 years since China joined WTO. This is significant because we promise we will have a national trade treaty for foreign enterprises but we do not have a trade treaty system at home…"The system has been piloted in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone since 2013==Over 50 new agreements covering areas such as nuclear energy, high-speed railway and currency swaps have been signed at a just-concluded China-Britain Economic and Financial session in Beijing.

One of the agreements announced at the talks is the expansion of the RMB/Pound Sterling swap line.

The currency swap line is an agreement to exchange one-another's currencies at a set rate, and at a certain time in the future.

The two sides have also agreed to carry out a feasibility study on a stock connect system between London and Shanghai.

A pair of Chinese state-backed nuclear power producers is expected to be involved in the building of a nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset.

Chinese companies have also been invited to bid on a new high-speed rail line in England.

----Yellen says Fed Reserve expected to raise ratesFed Chair Janet Yellen says she expects the Federal Reserve to begin raising interest rates from current record lows by the end of the year.

In a lecture at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Yellen suggested that global economic weakness won't likely be significant enough to dissuade the Fed from a rate hike by December.

"Most FOMC participants, including myself, currently anticipate that achieving these conditions will likely entail an initial increase in the federal funds rate later this year, followed by a gradual pace of tightening thereafter. But if the economy surprises us, our judgments about appropriate monetary policy will change."Yellen says she believes inflation will gradually move up to the Fed's target rate of 2 percent as unusually low oil prices and other factors prove to be temporary.

The Federal Reserve chose not to raise rates last week, citing global economic pressures and concern about excessively low inflation.

==On the Corporate News front,Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China has signed a cooperation document with Boeing Company, which will see the plane manufacturer build its first overseas aircraft completion center in China.

The center, mainly producing the 737 model, will be operated by a joint venture.

The plane maker has also inked a Memorandum of Understanding with China's top economic regulator, the NDRC, to further cooperate in the civil aviation industry.

Meanwhile several Chinese companies have signed purchasing agreements with Boeing.

China Aviation Supplies, ICBC Financial Leasing, and China Development Bank Leasing will jointly buy 300 Boeing aircraft.

==US-based Networking powerhouse Cisco Systems has announced a 100-million-U.S. dollar joint venture with China's information technology firm Inspur Group.

The JV will be located in China. But the specific place has not been announced.

The deal includes reselling Cisco networking gear and jointly developing a broad spectrum of software and hardware.

Inspur Group will have a 51 percent stake in the new venture, while Cisco has 49 percent.

The JV would deliver advanced technologies and services in information technology infrastructure, the cloud, data centers, smart cities and big data.

==Alibaba Group has designated Beijing as its second headquarters after Hangzhou.

China's biggest online retailer made the announcement on Thursday.

The company says Beijing will allow it to target the entire northern region, providing a digital platform for millions of merchants.

About one third of the company's business is based in the Chinese capital.

Japan Sports Minister resignsand in Olympic news:

Japan's sports minister Hakubun Shimomura announced on Friday his resignation over the scrapping of plans for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Shimomura stated that Japanese President Shinzo Abe had asked him to stay on until a cabinet reshuffle happens next month.

The sports minister also told reporters that he will return half his pay for atonement in this issue.

"The first time I received word regarding the possibility of the stadium's cost blowout and construction delay was in April, which is why I have decided to return the six months' worth of pay I have received from that day onwards," he said.

Abe announced in July that plans for the stadium would be scrapped after the estimated cost was over $2 billion.

Japan last month approved guidelines for its new Olympic stadium.

Officals have stated they will build an athlete-friendly stadium as cheaply as possible and complete it by March 2020.

England will face Wales at Twickenham in a crucial Group A clash on Saturday.

Whoever prevails will have taken a huge stride towards the knockout stages of the tournament.

Despite a 35-11 win over Fiji in their first game last Friday, England head coach Stuart Lancaster has chosen to change his team.

England's Assistant coach Graham Rowntree made light of the upcoming challenge facing his team.

"It's a pretty big game but in the next couple of weeks, they're all big games. It's a World Cup. There's not many small games but it's our next one so it's getting all our focus at the moment. Despite the loss, Georgia Head Coach Milton Haig remains optimistic for his team in their upcoming match against New Zealand.

"That's the pinnacle of everybody's career, is to play the All Blacks at a World Cup. And so we've got plenty of things to look forward to, and again, it's just management re-enforcing that in the next couple of days and, move on from there."The game was new record for Argentina against Georgia.

This win has moved the South Americans into second place of Pool C behind the 'All Blacks'.

FIFA head Sepp Blatter under criminal investigationAnd now for some news in FIFA:

Swiss prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into Sepp Blatter, head of FIFA organization, on Friday.

Blatter was interrogated after a meeting of FIFA's executive committee in Zurich.

Authorities have carried out a search of the FIFA headquarters.

The 79-year-old swiss who has run FIFA since 1998 has denied any wrong doing.

Former Soccer pro, Michel Platini is the current favourite to win the election to replace Blatter　when he steps down in February.

Kvyat leads in Sazuka practice raceIn F1 racing news:

Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat emerged the fastest at practice in Suzuka ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix on Friday.

The Russian Red Bull driver came out on top of the Mercedes pair of Nico Rosberg and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Rosberg came in second with Hamilton in the third spot.

Daniel Ricciardo was fourth ahead of Sebastien Vettel who struggled in the wet conditions.

This is the first time Sazuka has seen Formula 1 since Jules Bianchi's fatal crash last year.

Real Madrid defender Pepe is in a race to be fit to face Malaga in La Liga on SaturdayPepe picked up a leg injury in Wednesday's victory over Athletic Bilbao that put Real on top of the table.

Should he not recover in time, Real will have to use subs in their defence line up.

Real Madrid Head coach Raphael Benitez said that Malaga is a team to be taken seriously.

"It is a team that is doing well. It is a team that transmits good sensations. It is a team that just needs to have good fortune in front of the opposing goal. But the team is an organized team. Currently Real is on top of La Liga in goal difference, but tied on 13 points with Celta Vigo and Villarreal.

Entertainment'Lost in Hong Kong' Hits Big Screens in ChinaChinese director Xu Zheng's comedy film "Lost in Hong Kong" has hit big screens in China on Friday.

By pulling in some 212 million yuan, or some 33 million US dollars, 'Lost in Hong Kong' has set the record as the all-time top-grossing film for the opening day in China.

The latest in 33-year-old actor and director's "Lost" franchise follows the story of a pair of strangers who bond after becoming involved in a series of stories in Hong Kong.

Xu Zheng also performs the leading role in this film, along with the all-star cast, including the award-winning actress Zhao Wei.

This is the second directorial feature of Xu Zheng, after the huge domestic hit 'Lost in Thailand', which has earned more than two hundred million US dollars in box office revenues.

With a budget of just 30 million yuan, "Lost in Thailand" has been regarded as one of the most bankable Chinese films of all time.

The director is also preparing to shoot the newest film in the "Lost" series "Lost in India" this November.

Claire Danes Honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star'Homeland' actress Claire Danes has been honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

The 36-year-old star shows her excitement to the audience at Hollywood Boulevard.

"This is a little overwhelming and totally wonderful. I just learned, I love my residence. I just learned that this building was made for actors. Jane Fonda Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Her Non-profit OrganizationUS legendary actress Jane Fonda has celebrated nonprofit's milestone at a gala marking the 20th anniversary of the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential.

The 77-year-old actress and political activist says she will continue working for preventing teenage pregnancies through this nonprofit organization she founded in 1995.

She also thanks the efforts made by the Hollywood when giving remarks at the gala.

"I think there's a lot of very responsible political activism happening in Hollywood. There can always be more - in every profession. Every single one of us in this country should be doing all we can to make this country as equitable and fair and clean and healthy as it possible can be. And, we have a long way to go. So, we need everybody to take a stand. But, I think Hollywood is doing a good job."Over four hundred businesspeople and celebrities attend the gala, including Jane Fonda's ex-husband, CNN founder Ted Turner, and retired NBA player Julius Erving.

Fonda served as the non-profit organization's chair until she moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles in 2010.

The organization has expanded its mission to include nutrition and physical activity from three years ago.

'He Named Me Malala' Premiered in New YorkScarlett Johansson attended the premier of 'He Named Me Malala' in New York.

This documentary film features the youngest-ever Nobel Peace prize winner who was shot in 2012 for promoting education of girls.

As the film offers a glimpse of Malala, a girl who lives in a town some seven thousand miles away from US, Oscar-winning director Davis Guggenheim elaborates his inspiration of fulfilling this documentary.

"Malala made a simple statement that 'school is really important to me,' and she risked her life for that, and she almost died. But her perseverance and her triumph coming across that inspired millions of people. Not just the people here tonight, but my own daughters. So I'm very proud to tell her story, and it's a very special night to share the movie with the world."Malala was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, at the age of 17.

Now she's the co-founder of Malala Fund, and continues to play a leading role in campaigns concerning girls' education worldwide.

'He Named Me Malala' is set to be released in US on October 2nd, and in UK on October 8th.
