This is AP News Minute. 1. World leaders meeting at the United Nations Tuesday to discuss how to defeat the Islamic States group. President Barack Obama announcing Nigeria, Tunisia and Malaysia are the newest members of the US-led coalition to fight IS. 2. House Republicans accused of Planned Parenthood spending too much money on lavish (spent or given in profusion) salaries and political activity. The GOP using Tuesday’s hearing to build a case to terminate federal funding. The group’s president fired back, saying funds are used for health care, not political activity. 3. In Florida, the US Coast Guard unloads a haul (a quantity of something that was stolen or is possessed illegally) of roughly $41 million worth cocaine and marijuana. Officials say the drug was seized on two separate operations in the Caribbean. The Coast Guard says it’s been a record year for drug seizures. 4. And officials in Egypt say King Tut’s tomb may contain secret chambers. New high-resolution photos leaving scientists to believe that more may be hiding inside the 3,300-year-old mausoleum. Officials hope to scan the tomb with radar in hopes of unlocking the mystery. |
