They'll be a source of pride

The solar cell that powers my never winded watch

Is around 10% efficient

Which is plenty for a watch

But what if it were 50% efficient or 80% efficient?

Here's hoping a UMass raw material scientist

Becomes the inventor or venture capitalist

Or the lawyer who will grasp the value of this discovery and protect the idea

He or she would change the world

If you could invent a better battery
如果你能发明一种更好的电池
One that can store more energy using less exotic metal
使用较少异金属 存储更多能量
One that can handle the heat without the loss of performance

Or just playing catching on fire which you don't want in a battery
不会燃烧起来 你们可不希望电池烧起来
We could store energy from the wind and the sun
我们可以存储来自风和太阳的能量
And have it available whenever we need
并在任何需要的时候使用它们
We would change the world
我们将会改变世界
But if you were the inventor, the venture capitalist or the attorney that protect it
如果你能成为发明者 风投人士或是保护它的律师
You not only would change the world
你将不仅能够改变世界
It's a very good chance you would -- dare I say it -- get rich
还将能够变得非常富有
It is sobering for me and perhaps for more than a few of your parents
我思考过一个事实 你们家长也可以想想
To consider that many of you all UMass Lowell University graduates

Know more physics than Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein did

You all know more about the universe than Galileo or Copernicus did
知道的宇宙知识都比伽利略和哥白尼多
I can guarantee you that significant discoveries will
我敢保证 在你们这一生的时间里
Be made in your lifetime that will change the world
可能会出现变革世界的重大发现
We hope some of you sitting here today will be the ones that make those discoveries

Imagine this, when I was a kid

No one had a good theory as to what happened to the ancient dinosaur
