The real-world stresses these days are heightened by a feeling of fear and distrust in some communities after controversial police shootings lead to nationwide protests.

饱受争议性警官开枪事件引发的全国抗议进一步加剧了现在一些社区对警官的恐惧和不信任。

“This is a tough time for the law enforcement profession's image,and I think some people are shying away from the profession because they do not want to be subjected to the scrutiny, the abuse.

“如今执法部门的形象正受到考验。而且我想一些人不愿加入进来是因为他们不希望受人监管，在各种声音环境下执法。”

This type of sentiment adds to the already difficult job of finding qualified candidates.

这样的情况使得招收胜任这份工作的人非常困难。

“We are looking for somebody who is physically fit, obviously, but we want somebody who can speak well, represent the department, be smart enough to have some common sense in very difficult situations.”

Despite the challenges, some like Christian Davis still apply and graduate.

“Ultimately, you have to have the heart to do it. It just comes from the will to help serve and make the world a better place.”

“In no other profession will you be held, and appropriately so, to so much accountability. You have seen that for yourself in the news over the past year. While many professions get easier over time, law enforcement seems to get more challenging by the day.”

Officers say earning the public's trust requires both mental toughness and compassion,and they carry out their work with humility.

警官们表示取得公众的信任需要坚韧不拔的精神及同情心。而且他们需要谦虚谨慎进行执法。
