【英语时差8,16】麦克和亚曼达正在聊掩盖问题(在线收听) |
Amanda: Why are you painting that bicycle? Mike: It's my friend's. I borrowed it and got into a wreck. I can't tell him what I did, so I'm trying to cover up the damaged parts with paint. Amanda: The metal is bent! You can't change that with paint! Mike: I was trying to paint a curvy design on it so the damage isn't as obvious. Amanda: It's so bent there's no way your friend won't notice, and anyway, what were you going to say when he asks about why you painted it? Mike: Oh, I hadn't thought about that yet. I just thought I had to cover up the problem right away. Amanda: Have you even tried to ride it? It looks like the chain is broken, too. Mike: No, I haven't tried to ride it, but I think it will work. The chain's pretty small; it can't be that important, right? What exactly does a chain do? Amanda: It makes the wheels move. Mike: Oh, I guess it would be hard to do without that then. Amanda: Wouldn't it be simpler to just admit what happened and offer to replace your friend's bike? Mike: I suppose that's what I'll have to do now. |
