16日，民进党候选人蔡英文成功当选台湾地区第一任女领导人，从而创造了历史。

　　Following her win, Ms Tsai said she would strive to maintain stability in relations with China.

　　在成功当选之后，蔡英文表示，她会努力维持与中国现有的稳定关系。

　　Ms Tsai won 56.12 percent of the more than 12 million votes cast. She won 6.89 million votes; Mr Eric Chu of the Kuomintang (KMT) got 3.81 million and Mr James Soong of the People First Party took 1.58 million.

　　在全部1200万张选票中，蔡英文的得票率为56.1%，共拿下了689万张选票。中国国民党候选人朱立伦获得381万张选票，亲民党候选人宋楚瑜得票为158万。

　　"I will build consistent, predictable and sustainable cross-strait relationship," Ms Tsai said as she claimed victory at the DPP's headquarters in Taipei.

　　“我将建立一致的，可预测的和可持续性的两岸关系。”蔡英文在台北的民进党总部宣布成功当选时如此表示。

　　"I also want to emphasise that both sides of the strait have a responsibility to find mutually acceptable means of interaction that are based on dignity and reciprocity," she said.

　　她表示：“我还想强调的是，海峡两岸都有责任寻求一个建立在尊严和互惠基础上的对等、彼此都能接受的互动之道。”

　　A person in charge of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said the mainland's major principles and policies concerning Taiwan are "consistent and clear, and will not change with the results of Taiwan elections. We will continue to adhere to the 1992 Consensus and resolutely oppose any form of secessionist activities seeking 'Taiwan independence'".
