A 13-year-old girl has drowned trying to rescue her 11-year-old brother at Victorian beach. Police said the boy was swimming at Williamson's beach near Wonthaggi in the state's south east when he got into trouble at about 8 o'clock last night. The boy was saved but the girl got into difficulty herself and drowned.
 
South Australian police have formed a taskforce to investigate whether a man charged over the alleged assault and kidnap of 2 backpackers may be responsible for other crimes. A 59-year-old has been charged with a range of crimes including the alleged attack on 2 women at a remote campsite at Salt Creek on Tuesday.
