At this year's "Lianghui" or Two Sessions, China's achievements and challenges were highlighted-- which generated interest with social media users around the world. Social media users jumped on the internet to weigh in on hotly debated topics, following news conferences featuring high-ranking Chinese officials, NPC deputies and CPPCC members.
Last week, they gave a press conference that discussed past achievements, and also highlighted a breakthrough in China's aviation sector.
The country developed its first large passenger airliner. The C919 built by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, rolled- off the assembly line last November.
One Facebook user Abdul said, "We need competition not monopolies. Please carry on China." This is the most liked comment, and has generated so much attention that it ranks second behind the news on China's 12th Five-Year Plan.
Last Thursday, Chinese science and technology minister Wan Gang held a news conference to talk about China's progress in promoting scientific and technological innovations.
Facebook user Paul posted a comment that read, "Nice to hear. I want to see more cooperation between China and Japan." Air pollution was also a favorite topic of discussion during the annual two sessions.
At a press conference last Friday, China's Minister of Environmental Protection Chen Jining said, "China's air quality is mainly caused by our energy structure, coal consumption specifically." One Twitter user, tweeted about China's break with the past in an effort to combat the problem. "China is promoting clean coal to curb air pollution, says environment minister." |
