The Ibero-American Theater Festival, one of Colombia's most important cultural events, is held every two years in the capital Bogotá. And, in this Year of China-Latin America Culture, the Chinese connection is especially evident.

Terracotta warrior lantern marches in Colombia

70 lanterns in the shape of terracotta warriors have come to a local park in Bogotá. And the exotic figures soon became a photo-opp, especially for "selfie"-takers. When night comes, the effect is especially dazzling.

It took almost two months for these lanterns to travel from China to Colombia. Besides being on show at the Ibero-American Theater Festival, they also feature in China-Latin America Culture Year, a program aimed at boosting cultural exchange between China and nearly 30 Latin American countries.

Initiated in 1988, the festival takes place every two years during spring break and lasts for approximately two weeks. 

It offers a varied show of performing arts, including theater, dance, pantomime, puppetry, and circus performance, taking place simultaneously in theaters and on Bogotá streets.
