Kate: We also have rooms with second-hand and antiquarian books; we stock sheet music, which a lot of bookshops wouldn't consider stocking; so there's something for everyone there really; we've got a very big children's department with a tank with piranha fish in it. Diarmuid: Kate thinks that there are good reasons why Foyles has become a tourist destination which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Kate: I think it is partly those things – the size of the shop and the range that we have available. I think, also, we've been here for more than a hundred years, so it's got a strong brand I think and it's considered very traditional – it is a destination for tourists. So we're trying to make Foyles – as well as having a big range – trying to make it as interesting a place to shop – so you can have a cup of coffee, you can buy antique books as gifts, you can pick up gifts and stationary – so things other than books. |
