Bristol My name’s Rebecca and I was born in Bristol and lived there until I was 18 years old until I went to university. And still go back and visit quite frequently now because my family still live there. Andrea: Bristol is 170 kilometers west of London and is England’s sixth most populated city. So how does it compare to London? Here’s Rebecca again. It’s much smaller than London obviously. The pace of life is slower. Obviously there’s less traffic on the roads, which is nice – not always stuck in traffic jams. And it’s quite laid-back I guess, compared to the general pace of life in London. Most tourists would usually visit the Clifton suspension bridge which is probably what Bristol is most famous for, which was designed by Brunel – the famous engineer. And also the SS Great Britain, which was a steamship that was quite revolutionary at the time. The ship’s moored in the docks in Bristol so you can go and visit and look around the ship. There’s also a museum and Bristol Cathedral. St Mary Redcliffe is another really historic church. I think it’s about 7, 800 years old. Bristol University does have a reputation or at least did have a reputation of being one of the top universities. It tends to be all the Oxford and Cambridge rejects basically who go there! So yes,but I think it used to be in the top 5 universities in the country so it’s got quite a good reputation academically.
