 Feifei: Now originally you’re from Ireland aren’t you? Emmet: That’s right, I’m from the Republic of Ireland. Feifei:I don’t think many Chinese people know about Ireland. What languages do people speak there? Emmet: We speak English. I also speak Irish, which is still taught in schools at home. But most people don’t speak Irish, we speak English. Feifei: So you speak Irish. Can you teach me how I can say, “My name’s Feifei” in Irish? Emmet: Yeah, course I can. Feifei is ainm dom. Feifei: Feifei is ainm dom. Emmet: Perfect! Feifei: I can speak Irish now! And, how does life in London compare to life in Ireland? Emmet: It’s not all that dissimilar. I mean, we’ve got the same language obviously. Dublin is a very vibrant city, like London is. Feifei: I’ve been to Dublin. Emmet: Yeah? Did you like it? Feifei: Yeah, I loved it. Emmet: Great. The weather’s a bit better over here. Feifei: Ok, well I have a bit of a surprise for you, Emmet. And this is a bit mean because you haven’t started your course yet. But I have a little quiz for you to do and it’s all about China. Are you ready, Emmet? Emmet: I am. Feifei: Question one. Can you name two cities in China other than Shanghai and Beijing? Emmet: Erm, I can. Fujian and Tianhin. Feifei: Fujian is a province. It’s not a city. Emmet: So Fuzhu? Feifei: Fuzhou is a city, ok. And the second one? Emmet: Tianhin? Feifei: Tianjin. Close to Beijing. Emmet: That sounds better to me! Feifei: Ok. Question number two. When was the People’s Republic of China founded? Emmet: Fifty-nine years ago. Feifei: I think it’s nearly sixty. Emmet: Yeah. It’s sixty next month, in October.
