CCTV9英语新闻:Parties, media in Taiwan denounce release of fraud suspects(在线收听) |
In Taiwan, political parties and media outlets have criticized police for releasing 20 fraud suspects who were deported from Malaysia.
The newly-elected chair of the KMT, Hung Hsiu-chu, has called for bringing the suspects to justice. She warned that Taiwan should avoid becoming known as an “exporter of fraud rings.”
Taiwan’s New Party says the prevalence of fraud rings on the island has harmed numerous innocent people across the Strait.
An article in Taiwan’s Want Daily newspaper says the release has made the island synonymous with the tag “a heaven for fraudsters."
The 20 suspects had been deported from Malaysia Friday evening. They were among 52 people from Taiwan arrested there for suspected telecommunications fraud. |
