CCTV9英语新闻:Tokyo Trials hold indisputable significance(在线收听

A Japanese scholar says the importance of the Tokyo War Crimes Trials is beyond doubt due to its educational and historical significance. Onuma Yasuaki, professor emeritus of the University of Tokya says this is despite some right-wing politicians' attempts to undermine the trials.

"The nature of Japan's War of Aggression is quite clear, and the materials presented during the trials had proved the point clearly. Japanese people actually did not know the truth of that war before the Tokyo Trials, and the trials helped them learn the facts and crimes of that war. In this regard, the Tokyo Trials are of great educational significance," Yasuaki said.

"Based on this, the Japanese reflected on history after the war, agreeing that a pacifist constitution should be upheld. Therefore, the pacifist constitution has been Japan's foundation in the 70-year postwar period, and no war has been incited. The Tokyo Trials passed judgement on that war of aggression and war crimes, and the judgement has been stated clearly at the International Court of Justice. We cannot allow such a situation to occur again. This is of great historical significance."
