This is AP news minute. 1. House republicans are expected to work on a temporarily spending package behind closed-doors on Wednesday. They are under pressure to avoid a government shutdown with the election coming in November. 2. President Obama's visit to Laos included a stop in a rehabilitation center that helps people who need prosthetic limb. The U.S dropped millions of bombs on Laos during the Vietnam war, and explosions have killed and maimed thousands. President Obama has announced additional funding to help clean up unexploded bombs. 3. Cincinnati authorities are reporting a major spike in heroin overdoses and they say dealers may be experimenting on addicts. At least eight people who died tested positive for a powerful drug that is used to sedate elephants. 4. And the U.S has taken most Humpback whales off the endangered species list.
