Top 5 Songs for Week Ending Oct. 1

We’re counting down the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending October 1, 2016.

Somebody get the defibrillator, because I think the countdown needs a good jolt. Things are pretty much the same as last week…actually, they’re exactly the same.

Number 5: The Chainsmokers Featuring Daya "Don't Let Me Down"

The Chainsmokers and Daya stay put in fifth place with their double platinum hit “Don’t Let Me Down.”

Daya has just announced her first headlining tour. The Pennsylvania native – who turns 18 next month – announced a 26-city North American tour on September 26. It kicks off February 18 in Philadelphia and ends on March 30 in her home town of Pittsburgh. Daya says she and her team designed everything from scratch: lighting, production, sound, merchandising, you name it.

Number 4: Sia Featuring Sean Paul "Cheap Thrills"

Sia and Sean Paul tread water in fourth place with “Cheap Thrills,” and Sia is diving into movies.

Emma Watson narrates a new short film about women’s achievements called Hurdles, while Sia provides the soundtrack with her hit single “Chandelier.” Sia will also reportedly provide the movie soundtrack for Vox Lux, a musical drama featuring Rooney Mara. Production is scheduled to begin in February.

Number 3: Major Lazer, Justin Bieber & MO "Cold Water"

Major Lazer, Justin Bieber, and MO get comfortable in third place with “Cold Water."

This song features no less than two separate videos, and the artists seem to be banking on YouTube to drive audience numbers. Clever, since YouTube is factored into Hot 100 rankings.

Number 2: Twenty One Pilots "Heathens"

Our second-place song earned a boost from a much-hyped movie, but has managed to hang tough on its own.

Twenty One Pilots holds the runner-up slot with “Heathens,” from the Suicide Squad soundtrack album. Their Blurryface album is well over a year old, but don’t expect a follow-up any time soon: group member Tyler Joseph tells Billboard that he has nothing more than some ideas for songs at the moment.

Number 1: The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey "Closer"

Our number one act may not have an album in the works, either, but they did just announce a new song.

On September 26, the Chainsmokers took to Snapchat to preview a new single, “All We Know.” Group member Drew Taggart shares vocals with Phoebe Ryan on the song, which drops on September 30. They also tweeted a preview.

Will it also hit number one?

Whatever happens, We'll be back next week and hope you’ll join us.
