This is AP news minute. 1. Hurricane Matthew's torrential rains triggered severe flooding in North Carolina as the storm made its exit to sea. Thousands of people had to be rescued from their homes and cars. The death toll in the U.S climbed to 16. 2. New York's governor says a work train and a commuter train "side-swiped" one another, causing a derailment that injured 33 people Saturday night. Governor Andrew Cuomo says a train doing a maintenance works somehow violated the clearance space of a Long Island railroad train. 3. The man being charged with killing two Palm Spring Police officers Saturday and shooting a third could face the death penalty. Court records show 26-year old John Felix was a gay member who served time previously for a failed murder plot. 4. And hours before the second presidential debate, Donald Trump lashed out the growing list of republicans that are abandoning his candidacy, calling them"Self-righteous hypocrites , and predicting they are the ones who will lose".
