The holiday shopping season is underway as shoppers celebrate Black Friday by rushing into stores searching for bargins. The nation's largest retail group says it expects holiday sales to be up 3.6 percent for November and December.

US officials say a US service member has died in Syria after an improvised device explosion. A military statement didn't identify the service member or say when the blast happened.

Louisville, Kentucky police are still searching for suspects after a Thanksgiving Day shooting during a football game at a riverfront park. 2 people were killed, 2 others wounded.

And  Florence Henderson has died at the age of 82, one day after the actress was hospitalized for heart failure. She's best known as the mom from TV's "Brady Bunch."
