Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced last Monday that he will visit Pearl Harbor later this month to mourn the victims of the Japanese surprise attack 75 years ago. 日本首相安倍晋三上周一宣布,他将于本月晚些时候访问美国夏威夷的珍珠港,以悼念75年前日本突袭珍珠港的死难者。
Abe will be the first incumbent Japanese prime minister to visit Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which was attacked by the Japanese military on Dec 7, 1941, killing more than 2,400 people and leading to Washington's entry into World War II.
安倍将是首位访问珍珠港的日本在任首相。1941年12月7日,日本军队对珍珠港发动袭击,造成逾2400人丧生,美国因此加入二战。

"We must never repeat the tragedy of the war," he said. "I would like to send this commitment. At the same time, I would like to send a message of reconciliation between Japan and the U.S."

The White House confirmed a meeting in Hawaii on Dec. 27, saying "the two leaders' visit will showcase the power of reconciliation that has turned former adversaries into the closest of allies, united by common interests and shared values."

During his visit to Hawaii on Dec 26 and Dec 27, Abe will offer flowers at the memorial in Pearl Harbor and also hold talks with US President Barack Obama.
