Airbus announced that they will be able to finance the development of their new A350 XWB wide-body aircraft without any government subsidies. The United States government had been preparing to file a suit against Airbus in the World Trade Organization, saying that government backing for the project would prevent fair competition. Airbus hopes that the A350 XWB will help their market share as continuing delays with their A380 superjumbo plane have customers cancelling orders and buying from Boeing instead. One of their biggest customers, Lufthansa, just placed an order with Boeing for 20 747-8 passenger planes with an option on 20 more. Boeing announced that they are discussing sales of the 747-8 with three or four more airlines, which would further hurt Airbus's chances of selling A380s
