Mourners held funerals on Monday for some of the victims of the deadly Turkey nightclub attack. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the New Year’s attack. Police are still searching for the suspects. 

35 Russian diplomats ordered to leave the United States by President Barack Obama returned to Russia in the earlier hours of Monday morning. Diplomats and their families landed at an airport in Moscow at 6 a.m. 

Brazil’s authorities reported at least 60 inmates died during a prison riot. Officials believed the riot stemmed from gangs fighting and is the biggest prison massacre in the state’s history. 

And twin babies in Salt Lake City are doing well after being born over the New Year’s weekend. The first baby James was born just before midnight, December 31st 2016, and his brother Matthew was officially born in the next year, January 1st 2017.
