1. Donald Trump attacks civil rights legend John Lewis for questioning the legitimacy of the President-elect’s White House victory, saying “the congressman was all talk, no action or results ”. His attack came as rally’s planned around the country for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. 

2. A SpaceX Falcon Nine rocket blasted off in California on Saturday, marking the company’s first launch since a fireball engulfed a similar rocket on a Florida launch pad more than 4 months ago. 

3. Iraqi forces continued to battle Islamic State group militants for control of the Mosul University complex, an area of psychological significance in the operation to liberate Iraq’s second city from its extremists. 

4. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday,  before the inauguration of the Palestinian embassy of the Holy See. The embassy is the first of recent accords in which the Vatican formally recognized the State of Palestine.
