The website was co-created by San Franciscan, Yuri Lee, in 2008. She was interested in creating a website where people could post their own street fashion. Lookbook.nu is representative of global youth culture and is part of a larger movement of ordinary people setting fashion trends rather than big name brands. The website has grown to over 50,000 members and has become influential in the fashion world.

 

Anyone can sign up. Members post their own looks, browse looks posted by others, and vote for or “Hype” their favorite looks. The looks with most “Hypes” get exposure on the front page. The site has even created a few fashion blogger superstars.
