无花果树叶

　　含义

　　遮羞布，掩饰物。

　　原文：“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” (Genesis3:6)

　　“两个人的眼睛变明亮了，发现自己赤身裸体，于是便用无花果树的叶子做衣遮蔽身体。”(《创世纪3:6》)

　　典故

　　据《圣经·旧约·创世纪》第3章第6节记载，人类始祖亚当和夏娃未能抵住撒旦的诱惑，违背了上帝的嘱托，偷吃了善恶树的果实。于是二人有了智慧，发现自己赤身裸体，便用无花果树的叶子做衣遮住身体。

　　珍珠投于猪

　　含义

　　比喻有才能的人得不到重视，也比喻好东西落入不识货人的手里。

　　原文："Don't give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”(Matthew7:6)

　　“不要把圣物给狗，也不要把珍珠丢给猪，否则它只会践踏了珍珠，转过来咬你们。”(《马太福音7:6》)

　　典故

　　据《圣经·新约·马太福音》第7章第6节记载，耶稣·基督上山以后，对他的门徒说: “千万记住，不要把圣物给狗，也不要把珍珠丢给猪，否则它只会践踏了珍珠，反过来咬你们。”以此来告诫门徒，不要把真心话讲给居心叵测的小人听，不可把珍贵物品送给不识货的人。此外，Cast pearls before swine与汉语中的“对牛弹琴”、“对驴说经”、“明珠暗投”等词含义相近。

　　Swine指猪、猪秽、下流胚，在口语中多指令人不快的东西。此外，swine单复数同形，较不常用，一般用在兽医上，如swine fever(猪瘟)、swinepox(猪痘)。
