Larry 的新邻居非常吵闹，经常吵得他晚上睡不着觉． Larry问李华有没有什么好办法可以解决这个问题．今天李华会学到两个常用语： to knock it off 和 to conk out。
LL: My neighbors are still making a bunch of noise. I wish that they would just knock it off so that I could get a few hours of sleep. I'm exhausted.
LH: 你的新邻居还是那么吵啊？你只睡几个小时当然会感觉疲倦啦！疑？你说希望他们怎么啦？ Knock it off？那是什么意思？
LL: Knock it off. When somebody says "knock it off" it means that they want you to stop whatever you're doing, most likely because what you're doing is annoying.
LH: 哦～， knock it off 就是要人停止做某件事，特别啊是让人讨厌的事．你的邻居啊这么吵，所以你希望他们安静下来，别再吵了。
LL: Exactly. They have been yelling, singing, and watching TV nonstop for days. I would give anything if they (would) just knock it off.
LH: 整天都在大吼大叫，又是唱歌，又是看电视的啊，难怪你会受不了．那你有没有跟他们说过叫他们别再吵了啊？
LL: I've thought about it, but I don't want to get into an argument with them. I've even thought about calling the landlord.
LH: 你不想和他们吵，所以你还没说啊？也许你说的对，先和你的房东谈一谈，让他去告诉你的邻居。
LL: But they'll probably guess that I'm the one who complained.
LH: 就算他们猜到是你去向房东抱怨的，那又怎么样？你管他们生不生你的气？
LL: You're right, I guess it doesn't matter if they're mad at me as long as they knock it off.
LH: 就是啊，只要啊他们不再吵了，谁管他们高兴还是生气啊？我的邻居啊经常会把他的垃圾丢在我家门口呢。
LL: Did you tell him to knock it off?
LH: 当然啰，我是很客气请他不要再把垃圾放在我家门口．他现在啊不再那么做了。
LL: That's great. I wish my neighbors were as cooperative.
LH: 你啊要邻居合作，你就得跟他们讲，客气点就行了嘛．Larry，我觉得你很爱抱怨吔．也许啊你也应该 knock it off。
LL: Very funny, Li Hua.

LH: Larry，你好像很困吔，是不是刚起床啊？
LL: I must have really conked out. I fell asleep on the couch a few hours ago. I was so tired that my neighbors couldn't keep me awake any longer.
LH: 啊～？你在沙发上睡了几个小时，连你那邻居也没有把你吵醒啊．那你肯定睡得很沉． Larry，你说你 conked out？是睡得很死的意思吧？
LL: Right. To conk out is slang for falling into a deep sleep.
LH: 你看，我猜对了吧！我啊知道你过去几天有多累，能够好好睡一觉啊总是好的。
LL: Yeah, it was wonderful to finally conk out for a few hours. I really needed the sleep.
LH: 我也希望我能像你一样， conk out a few hours - 睡上几个小时．可惜啊我还不能睡；我还有好多功课要做呢。
LL: Maybe you could conk out early tonight and do your homework in the morning before class.
LH: 啊？你要我早点去睡，明天早上再起来做功课啊？不行不行，我啊如果还有功课没做完，我是睡不着的。
LL: You're a little too conscientious, Li Hua. Sometimes, you have to relax and take care of yourself.
LH: 你觉得我太认真了啊？别人也是这么说吔．看来我真应该放松一点喔． (yawn)，好吧，那我就去睡了， I'll try to conk out now。
李华今天学到了两个常用语．第一个是： to knock it off，意思就是“要一个人停止做一件事”，通常是令人讨厌的事．另一个常用语是： to conk out，就是“睡的很深、很沉”的意思。
