Kurdish forces are now taking over large parts of Iraq's Mosul dam, and vow to continue fighting Islamic militants.

The Kurdish operation to take Iraq's largest dam was aided by US air strikes early on Sunday.

It comes after the Islamic State's capture of the facility on Aug 7.

If the Kurdish claim is confirmed, it will be the biggest reverse for IS since it launched its offensive in Iraq in June.

Meanwhile, Kurdish forces have called for more military supplies as they advance to retake key towns and the Mosul dam in northern Iraq.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with leaders from Montenegro, Monaco, Fiji and Vanuatu in Nanjing, the host city for the Second Summer Youth Olympic Games.

During the talks with his Montenegro's counterpart, President Xi says china will try to strengthen cooperation in transportation infrastructure, energy, and tourism between China and central and eastern European countries.

When meeting with Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Chinese president said he appreciates the prince's support to the Beijing Olympics and the Nanjing Youth Olympics as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Xi Jinping also holds separate talks with Fiji's President and the Prime Minister of Vanuatu in the east Chinese city.
