Premier Li Keqiang says the Chinese economy can avoid a hard landing. Speaking at the World Economic Forum, or Summer Davos the premier said that China's structural reforms have reduced risk, and the economy will be able to avoid a steep drop in growth as it switches from an industrial model to a model powered by science and innovation. He added that the country cannot advance without changing the growth model, and that development should promote employment, improve incomes, boost energy conservation, and environmental protection. China's economy has experienced a tricky year in 2014, with growth hitting an 18-month low of 7.4% in the first quarter. The number rose slightly to 7.5% in the second three months period this year. Chinese President Xi Jinping is traveling to Tajikistan today for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and a state visit. Ahead of his departure, the president wrote in Tajikistan's People's Gazette newspaper, pledging to further enhance bilateral ties as well as the development of the SCO. He calls Tajikistan an important cooperation partner, saying China will work for trade facilitation, for the developemnt of road links, for pushing for the use of each other's currencies in trade, and for strengthening people-to-people contacts. Xi Jinping also hailed the SCO's development over the past 13 years, saying member countries have created a new model of international relations — partnership instead of alliance. The SCO summit runs today and tomorrow in Dushanbe,Tajikistan . |
