Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has arrived in Myanmar's capital for a series of meetings on East Asian cooperation.

He is also in the country for an official visit, his first to Myanmar since taking office.

The premier is scheduled to attend an East Asia Summit, a China-ASEAN leaders' meeting and a meeting among leaders of China, Japan, South Korea and ASEAN member nations.

Myanmar currently holds the rotating chair of ASEAN.

The focus of this year's meeting is the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community.

U.N. Chief Ban Ki-Moon is praising the new pledge made by China and the United States to limit greenhouse gases.

At the same time, Ban Ki-Moon is also calling on the rest of the world to follow suit.

The United States says it intends to reduce its emissions by 26 to 28 percent below its 2005 level by 2025.

At the same time, China says it expects its carbon dioxide emissions to peak around 2030.

The Chinese side is also promising to increase its green-energy use to 20-percent by 2030 as well.

The chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is commending the Sino-US agreement as "a big step forward" and "a very encouraging development."
