China and New Zealand have announced plans to take their relationship to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The announcement has been made following talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.

As part of the talks in New Zealand, the two sides have also set a new goal of increasing bilateral trade to 30 billion New Zealand dollars, or around 23.5 billion US dollars, by 2020.

The two leaders have overseen the signing of a number of deals in areas including climate change, education, finance, tourism, food safety and the Antarctic.

The medical community in the city of Qinhuangdao in Hebei is in shock following the mass murder of a group of nurses.

Six nurses and a janitor have been stabbed to death by a fellow employee at a dorm at their hospital.

A 27-year-old suspect has been detained in connection with the attack.

Authorities say the attacker had no previous history with any of his victims.

Police say the suspect does have a history of mental disease.
