Local authorities in southwest China's Yunnan Province have apologized for cremating the victims of a landslide without their families' approval.

中国西南部云南省当地官方，就未经家属同意便将山体滑坡事故遇难者遗体火化一事致歉。

46 villagers were killed and two others injured in the landslide that occurred in Zhenxiong County last Friday.

上周五，镇雄县发生山体滑坡事故，致46名村民死亡，另有两人受伤。

The unauthorized cremation has triggered protests from family members of the victims.

未经同意就将遗体火化一事引起遇难者家属不满。

Local authorities said they feared the bodies might spread disease if they were left in the open for a long time.

当地官方表示，他们担心遗体露天摆放时间过长会引发疾病传播。

The local funeral parlor cited shortage of freezers to store the remains.

当地殡仪馆表示没有足够的冰柜存放遗体。

China's environmental watchdog has pledged to curb vehicle exhaust emissions as hazardous air pollution has shrouded parts of the country in recent days.

中国环境监督机构表示，近日来全国部分地区的空气污染达到危险级别，因此中国将加大力度防治机动车尾气污染。

The Ministry of Environmental Protection says China will intensify supervision over the production, use and elimination of motor vehicles, while at the same time promoting the use of clean energy.

环保部表示，中国将加强机动车生产、使用、淘汰等全过程监管工作，同时要促进清洁能源的使用。

The Ministry has also urged regional cooperation in handling air pollution in key areas.
