Senator Al Franken announced his resignation Thursday amid sexual misconduct allegations. He said some accusations are untrue and that he remembers other interactions differently, but he said "women deserve to be heard and their experiences taken seriously".

FBI director Christopher Wray is defending its agencies following a twitter outburst by the president. Wray said there is "no finer institution and no finer people" than the men and women who work at the FBI. Present Trump took aim at the FBI over the weekend, tweeting that their reputation is in "tatters".

More evacuations in California as wildfires churn along the coast. Thousands of homes remain threatened by at least four major fires in southern California including near downtown Los Angeles.

And survivors gathered in Honolulu Thursday to mark the 76th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In Washington, President Trump signed a proclamation for national Pearl Harbor remembrance day.
