Kim Jong Un says the United States should know North Korea's nuclear weapons are a reality, not a threat. The North Korean leader's new year's eve address also struck a friendly tone, wishing South Korea success with the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Investigators in Coast Rica are trying to figure out why a plane crashed just after takeoff. 10 US citizens and 2 local crew members all died.

The crowd was smaller than usual as New York's Times Square celebrated its second coldest new year's eve on the record. The temperature was only ten degrees at the time of the famed ball drop.

330,000 were expected in Las Vegas for that city's new year's eve celebration. Federal agents and the Nevada national guard were on hand to assist the Las Vegas police.
