Mid-19th-century French landscape paintings debut in China

Some 40 valuable paintings from the mid-19th-century French Barbizon painters are currently on display at the China Millennium Monument. The exhibition is expected to give a clear insight into the paintings and to enable local art enthusiasts to better understand the larger European movement towards naturalism, a style that is based on representing accuracy and depicting precise details.

In contrast to their French origin, the curators who have brought these paintings to China are not French; but keepers from Galerie Michael, one of the most highly regarded fine art galleries in the world based in Los Angeles.

Among them is Robert Avellano with NEW PERFECTION Foundation. Our reporter Xu Fei caught up with him at the exhibition to talk about the paintings in relation to Barbizon school and the increase in the number of art and culture exchanges between China and the US.

That was Xu Fei speaking with Robert Avellano with NEW PERFECTION Foundation, also curator at Galarie Michael based in London Angeles. Together with his counterparts, they brought some 40 valuable paintings from the mid-19th-century French Barbizon painters, which are currently being displayed at the China Millennium Monument until December 15th.
