We were crowded in the cabin; 我们挤在船舱里， Not a soul would dare to sleep: 没有一个人敢睡去，
It was midnight on the waters, 那是海上的午夜，
And a storm was on the deep. 海上风暴正起。
This a fearful thing in winter 这是冬天最可怕的事，
To be shattered by the blast, 被一阵疾风打碎，
And to hear the rattling trumpet 听到绳梯的吼叫声
Thunder, "Cut away the mast!" 雷声，“切断桅杆！”
So we shuddered there in silence, 我们在沉默中战栗，
For the stoutest held his breath, 连最强壮的人都屏住了呼吸，
While the hungry sea was roaring, 当饥饿的大海在咆哮时，
And the breakers threatened death. 浪花发出死亡的威胁。
And as thus we sat in darkness, 这样一来，我们坐在黑暗中，
Each one busy in his prayers, 每个人都忙着祈祷，
"We are lost!" the captain shouted, “我们迷路了！”船长喊道，
As he staggered down the stairs. 从楼梯上跌跌撞撞地跑下来。
But his little daughter whispered, 但他的小女儿轻声说，
As she took his icy hand, 握起他冰冷的手
Is n't God upon the ocean, 难道上帝不是像在陆地上一样，
Just the same as on the land? 也会在海上吗？
Then we kissed the little maiden, 我们亲了亲小女孩，
And we spoke in better cheer; 用更加欢快的语调谈话；
And we anchored safe in harbor 平安地停靠在港口。
