Just then Francis Frame came out to the sidewalk and watched the Sunnysiders skate past. 就在这时,弗朗西斯·福雷姆来到了人行道上,看着阳光队从他面前划过去。
Somehow it made Andy feel uncomfortable, 不知为什么,安迪感到很不自在,
for he remembered his promise to let Francis use his skates. 因为他记得自己承诺过让弗朗西斯用他的旱冰鞋。
"After this race is over, I'll let him use them all he wants to," he said to himself. “这场比赛结束后,我让他想怎么用就这么用。”他对自己说,
"And I'll see that he gets a chance to play with the other boys in this block." “而且我保证让他有机会跟街区其他男孩们一起玩耍。”
Suddenly Andy stopped skating. 突然,安迪停了下来,
He had thought of a way to help his team win, and also to help Francis Frame. 他想到了一个方法,既能帮助自己的队取胜,又能帮助到弗朗西斯·福雷姆。
"But I don't want to do it," he said to himself. “但是我不想那样做。”他对自己说,
"It's too late to do anything about it now, and besides, he probably can't skate much. “现在做什么都太晚了,而且他可能不会滑冰。
He has long legs, but I don't believe he has any muscle." 他的腿很长,但是我觉得他没有肌肉。”
Andy went to bed that night still trying to decide what he would do. 那天晚上,安迪上床睡觉时还在思考他该怎么做。
The next day was Friday, and when he awoke in the morning, he was still thinking about the race. 第二天是星期五,他早晨醒来时仍在想着比赛的事情。
Buddy stopped for him on the way to school, and all that the two boys talked about was the race. 巴迪在去学校的路上停下来等他,两个男孩谈论的都是比赛的事情。
"Do you really think we can win?" asked Andy. “你真的认为我们会赢吗?”安迪问。
"Of course," Buddy replied. "We just have to win. “当然了,”巴迪回答说,“我们必须赢!
The Shadysiders beat us last year, but we're not going to let them do it again." 去年阴凉队打败了我们,但是我们不会再让他们打败了。”
Suddenly Andy knew just what he was going to do. 安迪突然知道自己该怎么做了。
Even though he wasn't a fastskater, he could help his team win the race. 即使他不是一个速滑高手,但是他能够帮助自己的队赢得比赛,
And at the same time, he could help Francis make some friends in the neighborhood. 同时也能帮助弗朗西斯在街区交一些朋友。
Andy could hardly wait for school to close. 安迪迫不及待地等着放学。
Finally three o'clock came, and he skated as fast as he could to the home of his new neighbor. 终于到了三点,安迪以最快的速度往他的新邻居家滑去。
