'Capharnaum', a new film by Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, has recently premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

The film, which vividly portrays the poorest slum life in Lebanon, earned Labaki the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival to become the first Arab filmmaker in 12 years to win in the official Cannes competition.

Thierry Frémaux is the artistic director at the Cannes Film Festival.

"As 'Capharnaum' was being screened in Cannes, it really impressed not only ordinary audience members, but film critics and jury members of the film festival. In my eyes, it would easily evoke emotions in audiences. I bet you would shed tears after watching it."

The story follows a 12-year-old boy who is suing his impoverished parents for giving him life. Director Nadine Labaki also plays a lead in her film.
