Hurricane Lane dropped almost two feet of rain on Hawaii's Big Island in just about a day. The big, slow-moving category 3 hurricane is expected to move close to or directly over parts of Hawaii's main islands.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared in a statement that the Justice Department will not be influenced by politics. This came after President Trump criticized Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation.

Agents say they have found a highly sophisticated drug smuggling tunnel that runs under the US-Mexico border. It surfaces beneath an abandoned Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Arizona.

And Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter of California and his wife pleaded not guilty in federal court. They are accused of illegally using his campaign account for personal expenses.
