Paddy Bear did not know, but he found out after trying very, very hard. 小熊培迪不知道，但是经过不懈的努力和尝试后，他终于找到了答案。

Once upon a time there lived in a dark cave in the mountains a brown bear-cub named Paddy. 很久很久以前，在群山中的一个漆黑的山洞里住着一个棕色的熊宝宝，他的名字叫培迪。

His father and his mother and his uncle and his aunt lived there, too. 他的爸爸、妈妈、叔叔、阿姨也都住在那儿。

All through the winter the older bears just slept in the cave. 整个冬天，大熊们就在山洞里睡觉。

But Paddy liked to tumble and play by himself outside his dark home. 但是培迪喜欢自已在家门外翻滚和玩耍。

One winter morning Paddy slid down the mountain-side until he almost rolled into a log house where some people lived. 一个冬天的早上，培迪顺着山坡滑了下来，他差点儿滑进了一个有人居住的小木屋里。

Now Paddy knew very well that he must not let any people see him, 现在培迪知道不能让任何人看到他，

for his mother had told him that sometimes they caught little bears and put them into a cage or pen. 因为他的妈妈告诉他说，有时候这些人会抓小熊，把他们关进笼子里或木棚中。

So the cub hid in the bushes behind the house and listened. 于是，小熊就藏在了屋后的灌木丛里，听人们说话。

What he heard made him so excited that he climbed the mountain very fast and then slid down the other side to his dark cave. 他偷听到的内容让他很兴奋，所以他飞快地爬到了山上，然后滑到了山的另一边，回到自己漆黑的山洞。

Hurrying inside, the little bear called his father and his mother and his uncle and his aunt. 小熊急忙跑进了山洞，叫自己的爸爸、妈妈和叔叔、阿姨。

When they did not speak, he bumped against them and tickled them and pulled their ears until they woke up. 见他们没有说话，他就对他们又撞又挠，还揪他们的耳朵，直到他们醒来为止。
