Hi there, I'm Ricky from the BBC World News for Schools. It's Monday the 6th of June.

Coming up:

?Volcanic eruptions in Chile,

?Record tennis wins at the French Open

?And a nine-year-old boy sets a hot air balloon record!

But first to Chile in South America, where volcanic eruptions have forced more than three and a half thousand people to be evacuated from their homes. Plumes of ash soared ten kilometres into the air, creating a huge dust cloud in an area close to neighbouring Argentina. Hugh lives nearby and describes when he first realised something was happening...

CLIP: "We realised after a few minutes, looking out of the window, that in fact we had just become engulfed in an ash storm and that it was snowing small particles of sand and very small rocks and it just went completely dark all of a sudden."

Next to tennis victories at the French Open. World number one Rafael Nadal was crowned champion for the sixth time in the men's singles, beating Roger Federer in four sets. Here's the moment he won the match...

CLIP:"..Nadal, second serve on its way, back hand return, really strong from Federer who's attacking, but forehand is long from Federer... and it's six French Open titles for Rafael Nadal"

And history was made in the women's final - Li Na became the first Chinese player ever to win a Grand Slam singles title. She beat the defending champion, Francesca Schiavone, in straight sets. The match was a national event in China and she hopes it will inspire others...

CLIP:" Many people will see this match and I wish more children will pick up the racket, to play tennis."

Now to Yemen in the Middle East. Officials say the country's president, Ali Abdullah Salih, is recovering from surgery to remove shrapnel from his chest in neighbouring Saudi Arabia. He was flown there after being wounded in an attack on his compound in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa. Thousands of people in Yemen have been celebrating his departure following weeks of anti-government protests, but one of his key ministers has said the President will definitely return to Yemen.

In Europe, experts working to find out what has caused serious food poisoning, which has killed more than twenty people, think they have found the source of the e coli bug. They think the illness has come from a farm in north Germany which produces bean sprouts. The farm has been closed and people in Germany have been told to stop eating bean sprouts while final tests are carried out. More than two thousand people in the country have become ill from the bug.

And finally to a nine-year-old boy in New Mexico who's become the youngest trained person to fly solo in a hot air balloon. Bobby only had 30 hours of flight experience, but he got up to three hundred metres into the sky before landing safely just under half an hour later. Bobby can't get his pilot's license until he's sixteen, so his family and friends built a smaller balloon in which he could take his solo flight.

Before we go let's have today's question. At the French Open, Rafael Nadal has now won the men's singles title six times. Only one other person has done this - what's his name?

That's all from the World News for Schools team for today. We're back tomorrow.
