In today’s programme on Spring festivals, Gemma Hunt is thinking about the history and significance of Mothering Sunday. In the story, set in Victorian times, Peggy sets off to see her mother for Mother’s Day. Peggy’s a maid in a big house and is taking her wages and a cake to give to her mother, but on the way she meets two women in need and because of her generous nature she finally arrives home empty-handed. Together is a collective worship series intended primarily for schoolchildren aged 7-11.
