On Thursday, Jeep fans everywhere had a reason to celebrate.

The Jeep was patented 75 years ago on April 7th, 1941.

The actual production of the first American Jeep was a joint effort, with American Bantam creating the winning design and receiving the patent.

But their engine didn't have enough kick, so the U.S. Military insisted that Willy-Overland's engine design had to go into the Jeep for Bantam to keep their military contract.

From there, Ford had to step in to make sure enough Jeeps were being made to ship off to World War 2.

Since then, the Jeep has been a classic part of America's off road vehicle collection.
