Netflix will raise rates for new customers by one or two dollars a month sometime before July, while current subscribers continue paying $8 a month for at least another year.CEO Reed Hastings saying the move will help cover costs for original programs like "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey.

But it's a delicate balancing act for Netflix as the video streaming and rental company spends more to compete with with cable channels and other services. Netflix lost about 800,000 customers after raising prices three years ago.
